12.7.3 Setting the seed rate
Note that even a small variation in the Thousand Grain Weight affects the number of kernels per m2 to a relatively significant degree.
Start by selecting which seed type you want to use. The software will select the recommended rotor and gear for the specific seed type.
Enter the required seed rate in number of kernels per m2.
Seed germination must be carefully checked and be taken into consideration when entering the required number of kernels per m2. See example below.
Example:
Required number of germinative kernels per m2: 400
Germination of the seed: 95%
Entered into the SeedEye menu (D): 400/0.95 = 421
The following equation can be used in order to calculate what a seed application rate in kg/ha corresponds to in number of germinative kernels m2:
Germinative kernels per m2 = Seed amount (kg/ha) x Germination (%)/Thousand Grain Weight (g)
